The Snail Gallery

Opened in May 2004, the Snail Gallery is a unique environment for exhibitions tucked away amongst the concrete and cars of the Dove Street high rise estate. September 2005 sees the launch of our annual Community Arts Festival. Alongside a programme of workshops, parties and performances we invite the public to explore our first major Art Trail. Expect the unexpected: arts, crafts, mystery and magic; installations, video and soundscapes...and...could that be a goat?

The Snail Gallery - Information for Exhibitors

This unique and exciting venue was originally an underground car park slip road. Now benefiting from security fencing and some TLC, the space is a semi-protected outdoor environment. There is no direct rain on exhibits, but the air may be damp at times. There is often a refreshing breeze, so appropriate space heating will be provided during the exhibition depending on the weather.
Constructed of partially painted industrial concrete, the gallery offers diffused natural illumination plus the possibility of some electric lighting. There is space for display of 2D work on the walls and 3D work on plinths. The acoustics are exceptional, inviting the possibility of aural sculpture or small-scale performance work.

Dove Street Action Group has public liability insurance cover for this event, and will we take all reasonable steps to ensure that the exhibition space remains secure overnight. The Gallery is locked when not in use, and is overlooked by a CCTV camera monitored by Bristol City Council. However individual exhibitors remain responsible for their own works at all times, and you are encouraged to take out your own insurance cover if you wish.

During exhibitions, if you wish to offer your work for sale, we will do our best to make a note of prospective buyers’ phone numbers and pass them on to you. However we will not negotiate prices or conduct sales on your behalf. Dove Street Action Group requests a donation (commission charge) of 10% of the value of any sales made at the exhibition – this money will go towards funding future exhibitions and other community events.
